Resistance of Jember Kasturi Tobacco to Major Diseases for the Release of New Superior Varieties
Abstract Jember Regency is the main producer of Kasturi tobacco. Originally, the North Jember area was the main producer of Kasturi tobacco, but due to declining soil fertility and increasing disease intensity, the development of Kasturi tobacco shifted to the South Jember area. The main diseases in Kasturi tobacco are the fungus Phytophthora nicotianae , the bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum , and the Cucumber Mosaic Virus /Tobacco Mosaic Virus. The fungus Phytophthora nicotianae can reduce yields by about 22%. This durability evaluation consists of 2 activities: 1) Testing the adaptation of Kasturi Jember tobacco to the main diseases in polybags, and 2) Evaluation of the resistance of Kasturi tobacco to the main diseases in the field. The materials used were 13 line of Kasturi tobacco, including P nicotianae and R solanacearum (K-399) and susceptible resistant controls (HS), while CMV resistant (Coker 176) and susceptible controls (Coker 319); Chemicals, fertilizers and sources of inoculum Phytopthora nicotianae, Ralstonia solanacearum and Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV). Tobacco line that are highly resistant to P. nicotianae Dark BK, Dark IK, and BEI 301 S, while those that are very susceptible are Dark FK, Dark GK, and BEI 302 S. Highly resistant tobacco line of R. solanacearum are Dark AK, Dark BK, Dark CK, Dark EK, Dark HK, Dark IK, and BEI 301 S while those that are very susceptible do not exist except for moderately resistant ones, namely Dark FK, Dark GK and BEI 302 S. Tobacco line that are highly resistant to CMV disease other than control plants have not been obtained.
