Growth and Yield Evaluation of Mutated Bululawang Variety on Ratooning Plantation

Abstract Developing new superior varieties of sugarcane can be done to increasing national sugar production. Superior sugarcane varieties are characterized by the stability of sugarcane production after being crushed and its growth on ratooning plantation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth and yield components of the mutated Bululawang sugarcane variety in 3 ratoon generations. The experiment was arranged using a factorial randomized complete block design. The first factor was ratoon generation, consisted three levels namely R1, R2 and R3. The second factor was genotype of mutated Bululawang namely M3.2, M3.3, M3.4 and non mutant Bululawang. All of combination treatment was repeated 4 times. Growth parameters were consist of plant height, stem diameter, internodes numbers, and number of tillers. On the other hand, yield component of sugarcane consist of brix, pol, sugar content, tonnage and sugar yield. The result showed that ratooning had a significant impact on growth and yield of mutated Bululawang sugarcane. There was a decrease in the value of the yield component, however, the mutated Bululawang genotype still showed a higher value than the non-mutant Bululawang variety.
