20 (2A) Unlocking asymptomatic subconcussive brain injury: blood biomarkers of oligodendrocyte-derived exosomes in athletes
discovery rate (FDR) correction and a log2 fold change threshold of 0.5.Results Sixteen biomarkers were elevated at the 6-hour visit: hemoglobin subunit alpha 1, fatty acid binding protein 3, S100 calcium-binding protein A12, interleukin(IL)-6, tau, phosphoglycerate kinase 1, malate dehydrogenase, presenilin 1, phosphorylated tau 231 and 181, IL-18, annexin A5, TAR DNA-binding protein 43, RE1 silencing transcription factor, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and peroxiredoxin-6.Alpha-synuclein and phosphorylated alpha-synuclein at serine 129 were lower at 24-48-hours relative to controls. Conclusion This pilot study investigating the association of SRC with 127 central nervous system-related proteins identified several biomarkers that have previously been shown to be elevated following concussion (e.g., GFAP, IL-6), as well as additional biomarkers for future validation work.
