25 (7A) Plasma tau levels associated with loss of consciousness at time of injury and elevated anxiety ratings post-concussion

Purpose To determine the test-retest reliability, standard error of measure (SEM), and minimal detectable change (MDC) for the Bertec Vision Trainer (BVT) in healthy college-aged adults. Methods Participants completed two BVT testing sessions separated by one week. The BVT is a sensorimotor device consisting of 10 individual assessment and rehabilitation tasks. These tasks evaluate various sensory, motor, and cognition domains such as reaction time, sequencing, processing speed, balance/ coordination, and memory.During each session, participants completed four total trials of each task with the first serving as a practice. The average was taken from the three testing trials and used to determine the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), SEM and MDC for each task.ICCs were interpreted as poor (<.50), moderate (.50-.75), good (.75-.90), and excellent (>.90).Results Thirty participants (age: 20.4 1.3 years; 70% female, 47% athletes) completed both testing sessions.ICCs revealed mixed reliability for the 10 BVT tests.Multiple object tracking was the only test to yield good reliability (.80), while contrast (.70), speed (.65), rhythm (.63), balance (.53), and peripheral (.51) had moderate reliability. All other tests (flash (.46), reaction time (.29), go/no-go (.23), and sequence (.16)) had poor reliability.SEM and MDC ranged from 0.04-12.23 and 0.11-33.90depending on assessment, respectively. Conclusion The majority of tasks on the BVT yielded moderate-to-poor reliability which is overall lower than research on other sensorimotor devices.Further research is needed to establish additional psychometric properties for the BVT to determine its clinical utility in the concussion evaluation and management process.
