PARA ALÉM DOS MORTOS: A REAL DIMENSÃO DA VIOLÊNCIA LETAL E NÃO LETAL NO BRASIL (2015-2024)
This study comparatively analyzes data on intentional homicides and attempted homicides in Brazil between 2015 and 2024, highlighting the real dimension of lethal and non-lethal violence in the country. The research reveals that for each consummated homicide, there is practically one frustrated attempt, totaling 858,952 victims in the analyzed period (435,574 intentional homicides and 423,378 attempted homicides). The results demonstrate a significant reduction in homicides after 2017, accompanied by stability in attempted homicides, which have surpassed consummated homicides in recent years. The conclusion indicates that although lethality has decreased, potentially lethal violence remains high, evidencing the need to overcome the traditional invisibility of attempted homicides in official statistics, public policies, and academic debates. The study proposes a more comprehensive and integrated approach to violence in Brazil, emphasizing the importance of standardized recording systems, intersectoral public policies, and interdisciplinary research for effectively addressing this phenomenon.
