Biological cell imaging by digital holographic microscopy with double field of view

Some novel spatial multiplexing methods, to extend the field of view (FoV) of a digital holographic microscope (DHM), are experimentally demonstrated. The double FoV of DHM is realized in a single shot by spatially multiplexing the two different regions of the object beam onto the image sensor by different optical components. A multiplexed digital hologram is recorded that on reconstruction, provides information of two FoVs simultaneously. The experimental findings demonstrate the capacity of the double FoV DHMs, particularly in biological cell imaging and investigations. The proposed concepts of doubling the FoV could find applications in diverse fields of biomedical applications, imaging, and measurement applications.
