34 (16B) Neck strength, range of motion, or neck disability index do not impact concussion recovery duration in adolescents

the second concussion based on PT status (not referred, referred but not seen by PT, and seen by PT) at the prior concussion. The Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test and Pearson's chi-squared test were used to assess differences in continuous and categorical variables, respectively, with a significance level set at p<0.05.Results Of 455 patients seen for two concussions during the study period, PT completion at the initial concussion varied by sex (p<0.001) and symptom severity at the initial visit for the second concussion (p<0.001).PT completion was also associated with a longer duration between concussions (p<0.05) and final visit to specialty care within 28 days (p<0.05).Conclusion We found that individuals who completed PT had more days between concussions, possibly due to extended rehabilitation before clearance. Results suggest that initial concussion characteristics and management, including PT referral, may predict the timing and severity of subsequent injuries.

Abstract

the second concussion based on PT status (not referred, referred but not seen by PT, and seen by PT) at the prior concussion.
