Parametric Design of Tessellated Geometric Kinetic Façade for Daylighting and Glare Control in a High-Rise Hospital Building in Amman, Jordan
Abstract Kinetic facades are increasingly used to enhance building user comfort. The aim was to optimize the façade designs of a hospital, located in Amman, to improve daylighting quality and overcome glare issues. Using the grasshopper and ladybug plugins for the rhino software, parametric daylight simulation was carried out. Three distinct kinetic façade parametric designs were applied to the façade of the hospital. Results showed that design option 3 has better performance compared to other designs in accordance with the effectiveness of parametric design and optimization in achieving performance goals. The daylighting illuminance in design 3 was between 300 and 3000 lux. Annual sunlight exposure (ASE), spatial daylight autonomy (sDA), and useful daylight illuminance (UDI) were 10%, 76.57%, and 60.2%, respectively. The glare autonomy (GA) was ranging between 61.64% and 89.76%, and discomfort glare likelihood (DGP) was mostly <0.35, corresponding to imperceptible glare. The findings may have advantageous repercussions for future suggestions regarding green design methods in hospital buildings.
