Validity of a Classification System for the Levels of Maternal Care
( Obstet Gynecol . 2025;145(2): e74–e82. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005806) A hospital will need adequate resources and trained individuals in order to provide the best care to pregnant mothers experiencing complex conditions. Maternal risk-appropriate care is the measurement the field uses to discuss whether a hospital is prepared for such medical complexities. Currently, the American Hospital Association Annual Survey classification is used to compare the hospitals and their resources. Due to limited research on the classification system, this study aims to further assess that system for effectiveness in determining whether a hospital is appropriate for care of a medically complex pregnancy.
