Desarrollo de habilidades de pensamiento crítico mediante problemas de matemáticas aplicadas
This study examines how solving applied mathematics problems enhances critical thinking skills in university students—abilities that are essential for both professional development and daily life. Through a qualitative literature review, pedagogical strategies that promote rigorous analysis, reflective evaluation, and effective problem-solving are identified and analyzed. Key methodologies, such as problem-based learning (PBL) and the flipped classroom model, emphasize active student engagement, fostering deeper and more adaptable learning. The findings reveal that using real-world contextualized problems not only strengthens mathematical proficiency but also cultivates autonomy, creativity, and critical questioning. By tackling practical scenarios, students gain confidence in their abilities and recognize the applicability of their knowledge, enhancing intrinsic motivation. Additionally, these strategies encourage collaborative work, logical reasoning, and evidence-based decision-making integrating active learning methodologies in applied mathematics education not only improves academic performance but also significantly contributes to the development of critical competencies for professional success. These findings support the need for innovative teaching approaches that prepare students to address complex challenges in an ever-evolving world.
