Numerical Study on the Influence of Elliptical Ribs on the Cold‐Plate Performance of Electric Vehicle Power Batteries
In this article, a cold plate with elliptical ribs in the flow channel is designed. The influence of the channel shape on the maximum temperature and temperature difference of the battery, as well as the fluid flow rate, is explored. Additionally, the effects of varying the number of ribs, the minor axis of the ellipse, and the major axis of the ellipse on the battery's maximum temperature, temperature difference, pressure loss of the cold plate, and fluid flow rate are analyzed. The cooling performance is evaluated using the heat transfer coefficient. The results show that the heat dissipation performance is better when the channel contains elliptical ribs under the premise of acceptable pressure loss, and the temperature is reduced by 11.53%. The channel containing elliptical ribs has the highest flow rate and the lowest cell temperature. Excessive number of ribs results in larger pressure loss, and higher mass flow rate, which causes vortexing at the end of the ribs. The elliptical minor axis parameter has the greatest effect on the fluid flow rate at the ribs, with an increase in flow rate of 64.50%. The maximum change in pressure loss is only 12.39% when the elliptical major axis is changed.
