Long-Chain Cross-Linking for Enhanced Mechanical Damping of Poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene) Elastomer

This study presents a chemically modified poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene) (SBS) film with enhanced mechanical robustness and vibration damping capabilities through innovative long-chain cross-linking strategies. The long-chain cross-linkers (carbon chain length >100) chemically interlock linear polymer chains within SBS films. These extended molecular bridges enable dual functionality: reinforcing structural integrity through covalent network formation and facilitating energy dissipation via controlled chain slippage within the flexible cross-linker framework during the dynamic loading. The modified SBS film demonstrates exceptional vibration mitigation performance, outperforming pristine SBS film materials by 1.5 times in signal stability.

Abstract

This study presents a chemically modified poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene) (SBS) film with enhanced mechanical robustness and vibration damping capabilities through innovative long-chain cross-linking strategies. The long-chain cross-linkers (carbon chain length >100) chemically interlock linear polymer chains within SBS films. These extended molecular bridges enable dual functionality: reinforcing structural integrity through covalent network formation and facilitating energy dissipation via controlled chain slippage within the flexible cross-linker framework during the dynamic loading. The modified SBS film demonstrates exceptional vibration mitigation performance, outperforming pristine SBS film materials by 1.5 times in signal stability.
