Exploring Quantum Materials with Uniaxial Strain
Uniaxial strain has emerged as a powerful tuning parameter in the study of quantum materials, enabling precise control over symmetry, electronic phases, and magnetic anisotropy. Unlike hydrostatic pressure, it selectively couples to anisotropic electronic responses, making it a sensitive probe of phases with broken symmetry, such as nematic order and quantum criticality. In this article, we highlight recent advances in strain cell technologies and explore how uniaxial strain has opened new pathways for manipulating and revealing novel states across a wide range of quantum materials.
