The Impact of Green Solvent Processing on Electroactive Poly(<i>N</i>-(6-<i>N</i>-carbazolylhexyl) acrylamide) and Poly(6-<i>N</i>-carbazolylhexyl acrylate)
Electronic properties of non-conjugated pendant electroactive polymers (NCPEPs) have predominantly been evaluated in films processed from halogenated solvents. Here, we report functionalized poly(N-alkyl acrylamides) (PNAAms) as a class of NCPEP showing better processability in green solvents, namely, anisole, than known poly(alkyl acrylate) (PAA) analogues. Anisole-processed PNAAm films provided superior hole mobilities (2.23 × 10–4 cm2 V–1 s–1) compared to PAA (3.17 × 10–5 cm2 V–1 s–1) and films processed in halogenated solvents (3.35 to 5.48 × 10–5 cm2 V–1 s–1). This demonstrates the first evidence of backbone enabled effective green solvent processing in NCPEPs and establishes PNAAms as a promising class.
