GRATITUDE FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF STUDENTS’ ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE
This study explores the concept of gratitude within student organizations, specifically in the context of two prominent Islamic student organizations in Indonesia, Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah (IMM) and Pergerakan Mahasiswa Islam Indonesia (PMII). It aims to understand how organizational culture influences the development and expression of gratitude among students, and how this gratitude is integrated into daily practices and interactions. Using a quantitative survey approach, 530 active students from seven universities in South Sulawesi participated, representing both organizations. The study employed the Indonesian version of the Gratitude Scale, which measures three key aspects: sense of appreciation, positive feelings about life, and expressions of gratitude. Findings show that organizational culture plays a significant role in shaping students' perspectives on gratitude, with the IMM group demonstrating higher overall gratitude levels compared to PMII. The results also highlight the role of spiritual and cultural values in fostering gratitude, as the respondents’ gratitude practices were closely linked to personal, communal, and divine gratitude. This study contributes to the understanding of how organizational culture and student engagement influence the psychological and social benefits of gratitude, particularly in Indonesian student organizations. The findings also suggest that fostering gratitude within student organizations can enhance soft skills, contribute to personal well-being, and prepare students for future societal roles.
