Study of platelet indices among patients with diabetes mellitus attending tertiary care hospital

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a frequent global metabolic disorder. It has become an important communal health problem in the whole world. It is a noninfectious sickness which is found to be very high occurrence in the worldwide. We investigated into whether diabetes affected the activation of platelets. and its related cardiovascular disorders by evaluating MPV in diabetics versus non-diabetics. Objective: To study the Platelets Parameters of patients of Diabetes mellitus and compare with Non-Diabetic individuals. Methods: This study was conducted at tertiary centre on 50 Diabetic and 50 Non-Diabetic patients. Platelet count, PDW, MPV, HbA1C, FBS (Fastingbloodsugar) was studied. Result: In this study, the Mean value of the platelet count in diabetic group was higher in comparison to the Non-Diabetic group. The Mean ± SD value of the MPV was 11.57±1.24 fl in Diabetic group which was increased in comparison to the Non-Diabetic group 10.85±0.33 fl.Conclusion: This study showed that the Mean FBS, HbA1C, Platelet count, MPV were found to be significantly higher among Diabetic patients as compared to the Non-Diabetic group.
