The question of the employment of older people in France, beyond just pension reform
<ns3:p>Introduction: The article addresses the challenges associated with employing older individuals in France amid population aging and increasing life expectancy. While delaying retirement is often proposed as a solution, this issue is influenced by multiple factors including workplace practices, social policies, and economic structures. Objective: To analyze the reasons behind France's relatively low employment rate among older workers, assess past and current policies, and propose more comprehensive measures to enhance senior employment.Materials and methods: The article relies on statistical data from OECD and national sources, literature review, and comparative analysis of international policies and labor market structures. It considers historical trends, policy reforms, and socio-economic variables. Results: France's underperformance is linked to generous pension and unemployment schemes, unfavorable economic specializations, and rigid pay structures. Although recent reforms have raised retirement ages and reduced unemployment benefits, structural barriers remain. Success requires combining these with active labor market policies like vocational training, flexible contracts, and ergonomic adaptations.</ns3:p>
