Molecular detection of Toxoplasma gondii parasite in pregnant women in Diwaniyah Governorate

Background: This study included molecular detection for infection women of the Toxoplasma gondii parasite by antibodies in 182 serum samples from groups of women collected from pregnant women arriving at Al-Diwaniyah teaching hospital for women and children during the year 2022. Methods: The study used PCR technique for the detection of the parasite DNA using the B1 gene and the relationship of infection to gender “husbands of infected women “and place of residence. Results: The study results in a total infection rate in the Conventional method of diagnosis of 45.05% while molecular detection of 27.22%. male blood samples 84 were examined, and their infection rate reached 36.90% in the conventional method with molecular detection 13.09%. The study also included infection rates by month of the year with the highest infection rate in October and September 65.38% and 60% respectively. Conclusion: the study showed the infection rate according to the patient's place of residence, so the result in the rural was 67.07% compared to the infection rate in the city, 32.92%.
