Content of Philological Competence in Students of Language Faculties
The concept of philological competence includes the knowledge of language as a system, the ability to interpret texts, taking into account cultural and historical contexts, as well as the application of the acquired knowledge in practice. The author substantiates the necessity of working with various texts, including artistic, scientific and journalistic texts, as well as the need to develop students’ critical thinking and analytical abilities. Mastery of a foreign language implies not only linguistic knowledge, it should be supplemented with a sufficient amount of country, linguocountry and cultural information. The relevance of the article is based on the fact that philological competence is becoming both an academic and professional value, contributing to the formation of highly qualified specialists who are able to work effectively in various fields of linguistics. In addition, today the ability to conduct intercultural dialogue is actualized, which requires future philologists to know foreign languages and cultures. The research methods used in this paper include the analysis of scientific literature on the problems of formation of philological competence, analysis of normative documents, observation of the educational process at the university, classification, generalisation, description. Research results are as follows: the main approaches to the issue of philological competence are described and presented, the scope of using discourse and philological analysis in classes for future teachers is defined. The data obtained in the course of the research determines the practical significance, namely, it allows to give a start for further study of the problem of professional competences, to become the basis for a dissertation on the topic ‘formation of philological competence’, which necessarily leads to the application of knowledge in a practical way to work with students studying in language universities.
