Revolutionizing Lower Quality Reservoir Development: The Successful Application of Horizontal Multi-Stage Fracturing in KTB Field

Oil Company's hydrocarbon development mainly depends on traditional recovery methods but many mature fields and low-quality reservoirs stay under optimized. The TE-2 sandstone formation in KTB field has only achieved about 15% recovery which falls short of its potential capacity. Utilizing hydraulic fracturing in vertical and directional wellbore systems did not lead to optimal production increases. Alternative development strategy became necessary to optimize reservoir drainage and achieve maximum economic recovery. The application of horizontal multistage fracturing (MSF) was proposed as a strategy to boost hydrocarbon recovery efficiency while optimizing project economics. MSF emerges as a cost-saving alternative to traditional directional fracturing wells by cutting down the total number of wells needed to efficiently drain the reservoir. The method decreases surface infrastructure expenses through reduced costs in drilling operations as well as wellpad construction and production facility setups. MSF achieves comprehensive fracture coverage throughout the reservoir which leads to better well productivity. The project supports key strategic goal to advance LQR development alongside efforts to counteract the decreasing output in the KTB field. This initiative boosts national production targets through enhanced hydrocarbon extraction efficiency. The effective implementation of this project provides a technical benchmark for future development projects and establishes groundwork for accessing similar reservoirs throughout the area.
