BENEFÍCIOS DO ISOLAMENTO ABSOLUTO PARA A ODONTOLOGIA CONTEMPORÂNEA – UMA REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
Absolute isolation of the operative field, achieved through the use of a rubber dam, is considered an essential resource for ensuring the quality and safety of dental procedures. This literature review aimed to analyze the main clinical benefits, effectiveness, and limitations of the technique based on scientific evidence published between 2000 and 2024. The research was conducted using well-established databases and strict inclusion criteria. The reviewed studies highlight that absolute isolation significantly contributes to contamination control, improved adhesion of restorative materials, and patient protection. Despite its advantages, its routine use is still limited due to factors such as cost, clinical time, and lack of professional training. It is concluded that expanding the adoption of this technique requires greater professional education and a broader appreciation of its value in contemporary dental practice.
