EFFECT OF GALANGAL (ALPINIA GALANGA) AS A FEED SUPPLEMENTATION ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND SOME PHYSIOLOGICAL STATUS OF BROILER CHICKS

This study aimed to determine the impact of adding different levels of galangal (Alpinia galanga) to the diet of broiler chicks on productive performance, lipid profile, biomarkers of antioxidant status, carcass traits, economical efficiency, and production index. Seven-day-old chicks used from 180 broiler chicks (Arbor Acres) in a completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 6 replicates (each replicate of 6 chicks). The first group received only the basal diet (control); while the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th groups received the basal diet supplemented with 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.00 % galangal, respectively. Supplementation of different levels of galangal had greater productive performance, economical efficiency and production index than those fed basal diet (control). Supplementation of different levels of galangal decreased total lipids, triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL, MDA, and increased glucose, T3, T4, HDL, TAC, GSH-Px, and SOD compared to the control group (within normal range). In conclusion, galangal supplementation at 0.25% improved the growth performance and some physiological status of broiler without any adverse effects on blood components of broiler.
