Research on heading control system design for ships using fuzzy logic control combined with sliding mode control

This paper presents the research on the design of a Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller for ship heading control systems to enhance the heading control performance. The FSMC combines the advantages of SMC in terms of stability and robustness with the fuzzy information processing capability of FLC to reduce chattering phenomenon and improve disturbance rejection. MMG model is utilized to describe the ship's dynamics. Simulation results obtained in MATLAB/Simulink demonstrate that the FSMC exhibits superior trajectory tracking performance, rapid response time, minimal overshoot, low steady-state error, and enhanced disturbance rejection compared to conventional SMC. This research contributes to improving the efficiency and reliability of ship control systems in real-world operating conditions.
