Clinical features and risk factors of older adults with bloodstream infection
The proportion of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria in bloodstream infections in older adults was similar. The common clinical features of bloodstream infection in the older adults are fever and a decreased level of consciousness, and there was no significant difference in systemic clinical manifestations between bloodstream infection and non-bloodstream infection. High procalcitonin (PCT) level, heart rate > 90 beats/min, arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) < 32 mmHg, and underlying coronary heart disease were independent risk factors for bloodstream infection in older adults.
