Exploring the Impact of Social Networking on Body Dissatisfaction, Self-Image, and Psychological Distress Among Young Adults

The current study examines how social networking affects young adults' psychological distress and physical self-esteem in the 18–24 age range. This study used a quantitative cross-sectional research methodology with 150 individuals to examine the relationship between social media use, body dissatisfaction, self-esteem, and mental health outcomes. Standardized questionnaires such as the Body Dissatisfaction Scale, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, and Social Media Engagement Questionnaire were used. Contrary to earlier studies, there was no significant negative connection, between body dissatisfaction and social media use. There were no discernible gender differences in depression or body dissatisfaction scores. Social media use was not significantly predicted by self-esteem either. These findings challenge conventional wisdom about the consistently detrimental effects of social media on adolescent self-perception and highlight the need for more advanced approaches to investigate the impact of digital media on underage mental health. The study proposes school programs, parental involvement, and media literacy instruction as interventions to encourage social networking site use that is healthier.
