Assessment of a Diabetes Control Programme in Pune City: Patient Perspectives

Abstract Introduction: The increasing prevalence of diabetes worldwide has prompted a search for effective solutions. Plant-based diets are emerging as a promising approach for managing and potentially alleviating the condition. Therefore, our focus was on examining and analysing a programme for diabetes control in Pune City. Materials and Methods: In this prospective observational analysis study, a cohort of 467 patients who underwent a minimum of 4 months of treatment through a Diabetes Free Forever (DFF) programme was included. To gather feedback, we implemented a Diabetes Reversal Programme Feedback Form. Statistical analysis employed the Chi-square test, with a significance level set at a P value of <0.05. Results: A total of 467 participants were included in the study, with an average age of 53.47 ± 17.95 years. Notably, 93% of the participants demonstrated controlled blood sugar levels. The programme garnered a high recommendation rate, with 99.14% expressing a likelihood of recommending it. Participant satisfaction was robust at 97%, and an overwhelming 99.36% acknowledged the quality of the staff as good. After a minimum of 4 months with the DFF, 96% of participants reported controlled symptoms related to diabetes mellitus (DM). About 99.36% of patients expressed a positive liking for the DFF programme. Upon scrutinising the data, significant statistical associations were identified, notably the correlation between occupation and the maintenance of diabetes and another related symptom ( P = 0.00003), as well as the correlation between social history and blood glucose control ( P = 0.01) and a statistically significant link between the duration of diabetes and fasting blood sugar levels ( P = 0.005). Conclusion: In summary, the findings of the study indicated that patients who participated in the DFF programme experienced controlled and decreasing blood sugar levels. Symptoms related to DM were also effectively managed. Participants had expressed high regard for the DFF programme, providing exceptional ratings for recommendability, staff quality, satisfaction and overall likeability.
