National patriotic values: essence and definition of the concept

The article examines the concept of «national and patriotic values». The principles of the state educational policy regarding national-patriotic education are highlighted. The New Ukrainian School reform is aimed at introducing modern educational approaches and is designed to shape values and develop value orientations among students. It was found that paying special attention to the patriotic education of students becomes a key aspect in the national education system. It is stated that the focus of the work should be on strengthening national and patriotic education to form a new Ukrainian who acts in accordance with national and European values. Thus, the formation of national-patriotic values becomes the main goal of national-patriotic education. The article aims to define 'national-patriotic values' as a synthesis of 'patriotic' and 'national' values through the analysis of scientific sources.The article analyses the essence of the concepts of «national values» and «patriotic values» that are found in scientific discourse, and presents their key elements. It is concluded that national values are a system of significant formations at the personal and social levels, which are manifested in the sphere of relations between subjects and objects. For Ukrainian society, national values are a systemic organising factor of its own existence and progress. Patriotic values encompass love for the nation, pride in its heritage, and the readiness to defend it.. Developing an effective system of patriotic values will pave the way for the Ukrainian people to move to a qualitatively new stage of development, enrich its cultural potential, and preserve the unique Ukrainian ethnicity in the face of globalisation. Based on the analysis, the author compares approaches to the definition of the concepts of «patriotic values» and «national values» and presents his definition of the concept of «national-patriotic values».
