Escape Velocities

Abstract This article theorizes “chronicity” at the tensions of disability and trans theory, imagining the liberatory temporal possibilities chronicity might afford. While often reduced to a sense of permanent or indefinite duration, “chronic” also signifies a state of flux and denotes bodyminds that change in ways that are unpredictable, that undermine a cisheteronormative notion of stability. Drawing from trans and disability studies, the article examines access to gender affirming care through chronicity.
