Synthesis of Copper (II) Oxide Using the Precipitation Method with Variations in Concentration of Precipitating Agent KOH
Synthesis of copper (II) oxide has been carried out using the CuSO4.5H2O precursor with and without the addition of PEG with various concentrations of the KOH precipitating agent. This synthesis attempts to determine the effect of PEG and KOH concentrations on the characteristics of CuO material. The precipitation method was chosen because of the simple synthesis process and low synthesis costs. The deposition method by adding PEG in this study was used to control the particle size and prevent agglomeration. The results showed that the black precipitate was synthesized by CuO at all variations of KOH concentrations. The best results were obtained for CuO synthesis at a KOH concentration of 0.3 M without and with the addition of PEG. The results of the synthesis were characterized by FTIR, XRD, and PSA. FTIR test results showed the presence of CuO groups in all variations of KOH concentrations. The results obtained from the XRD analysis showed that the two best data points had monoclinic crystal structures, and the results of the PSA analysis showed that the results of the synthesis with the addition of PEG had a smaller average diameter size than without the addition of PEG, which was 2722 nm.
