Performance optimization of high-strength self-compacting concrete using mineral admixtures

This study focuses on optimizing the performance of High-Strength Self-Compacting Concrete (HSSCC) through the integration of mineral admixtures including fly ash, silica fume, and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS). A series of mix designs with varying water-cement ratios were tested to evaluate workability, strength development, and durability characteristics. Experimental results revealed that silica fume significantly enhanced early compressive strength and cohesiveness, while fly ash contributed to long-term strength and improved workability. GGBS improved chemical resistance and minimized mass loss under acid exposure. The SF15 mix with a w/c ratio of 0.30 exhibited superior performance across all parameters. These findings confirm that the judicious use of mineral admixtures in HSSCC can yield a structurally efficient and environmentally sustainable concrete mix, well-suited for high-performance infrastructure applications.
