Parental Counseling and the Role of Therapeutic Intervention inAutistic Spectrum Disorders
Autism is a behavioral disorder, it is not a disease and cannot be diagnosed by clinical analysis and investigation. The family plays a very important role in the life of a child with autism. The family is the most important supporting factor in its development. An essential strategy used by the parent with a child with autism is the technique“learning through repetition”, which helps the child learn and master new behaviors. Tiving rewards is another beneficial method used by the parent. Another very important factor in the whole process is counselling parents. There are many parents who find it difficult to accept the diagnosis of the child. They need counseling to be able to understand exactly what this autism factor entails and how they should support the child with autism. Through this counseling, parents learn how to cope with emotional challenges and overcome the accumulated stress. Counselling and early intervention can significantly contribute to improving the quality of life of children with autism and their integration into society.
