Design, Development and Evaluation Studies of Acyclovir Topical Gels for Anti-Viral Activity
The aim of this study is formulation and development of Acyclovir loaded topical gel, to evaluate pre formulation and post formulation parameters of gel with effect of different gelling agent and their comparative study. In the first phase, pre-formulation studies were carried out then the Acyclovir formulation was prepared, using solvent dispersion method and then post formulation studies were carried out. Acyclovir as the API has effective anti-viral activity, which is helpful for treatment of Herpes Simplex Virus like infections. The gel will ensure longer retention time, both at site of application and also at the site of drug absorption, thus, giving the drug enough time for absorption. Different parameters are studied in formulation of gel like: Organoleptic properties, viscosity study, in-vitro drug release study, FT-IR of API and gelling agent evaluation of gel as well as in-vitro and in-vivo activities.
