An Innovative Approach Towards Taste Masking: Formulation and Evaluation of Clarithromycin Suspension for Pediatrics
This research addresses the critical need for palatable pediatric formulations of Clarithromycin, a widely used antibiotic, by developing a taste-masked liquid suspension. The study aims to identify effective taste-masking techniques to create a stable, ready-to-use formulation that conceals the bitter taste of Clarithromycin, improving its acceptability among pediatric patients. Given the challenges with administering solid dosage forms and granules to children, the research focuses on developing a more user-friendly alternative. Various taste-masking agents and techniques were investigated to ensure optimal taste-masking without compromising the drug's stability, safety, or efficacy, with Carbopol 974P explored as a key agent. Utilizing the Box-Behnken design, the formulation was optimized, and stability studies assessed its shelf life and effectiveness under different storage conditions. By developing a liquid suspension, this research aims to enhance adherence and treatment outcomes in pediatric patients by providing a more acceptable and user-friendly medication.
