Analysis of Jailbreak Attacks and Defenses for Large Language Models
Large language models (LLMs) have gained extensive applications in the digital era, yet their vulnerability to jailbreak attacks has become increasingly prominent. Leveraging linguistic complexity and model prediction uncertainty, jailbreak attacks employ diverse tactics such as prompt injection and social engineering to induce models to generate harmful content. These attacks pose substantial negative impacts on model reliability and societal dimensions, including ethical and moral risks, security threats, and trust crises. Case studies, such as chatbots generating violent content, are presented to illustrate the attack hazards. For defense, a multi-layered system is established encompassing: 1) Input filtering (rule-based filtering, semantic analysis, and adversarial training filtration), 2) Model reinforcement (adversarial training, safety fine-tuning, and multimodal training), and 3) Output monitoring and correction (real-time monitoring and rectification mechanisms). These strategies demonstrate clear theoretical foundations and practical effectiveness. Continuous research on LLM security and optimization of defense frameworks are crucial to ensuring robust development and unlocking the full potential of large models.
