THE ROLE OF FAMILY IN THE REHABILITATION OF DRUG USERS

The objective of the paper is to highlight the challenges faced by the families of drug users during the process of recovery and reintegration. Materials and Methods: The quantitative study included 198 participants from urban and rural areas, consisting of 95 females and 103 males, aged between 14 and 19 years. Participation was voluntary, adhering to the norms of scientific research. An “omnibus” questionnaire with 69 items was applied, from which the items related to drug use and the information available to drug users and their families were selected for this paper. The results were statistically processed using SPSS 21. Results and Discussions: In the studied sample, 73.6% of participants indicated that there are sufficient sources of information about drug use, while 26.4% stated that more information is needed. A total of 25.5% obtained information from their parents, 11.7% from friends, 42.6% from the internet, 10.6% from medical professionals, and 9.6% used other sources of information. Conclusion: Given that the primary sources of information about drug use among young people are the internet and family, it is essential that the information available online is accurate and reliable. In the recovery process of drug addicts, family support is crucial. To prevent relapses, it is important for families to be well-informed on this topic.
