Saphirs synthétiques Verneuil - initialement quasi-incolores, fissurés par trempe, cicatrisés par traitement au béryllium
Synthetic corundum obtained by melt technique (Verneuil), quench-crackled and then healed by heat treatment are now well described. But Thai burners are very creative and regularly innovate. We now have on the market synthetic flame fusion sapphires, initially colorless or very pale yellow, which are crackled by quenching and healed, but also diffused with beryllium at the same time to create/enhance the yellow hue.
