When I worked at the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), Commissioner Arlene Gonzalez‐Sanchez would regularly remind me that our addiction care programs help individuals with addictions and not the substances they use. For the last two decades we have focused much of our energy on treating opioids, and we needed to do this.
