Neuroplasticidade associada à cafeína
Introduction. Caffeine (1,3,7 trimethylxanthine) is an ergogenic compound. This effect is primarily due to its role as a non-selective antagonist of A1 and A2A adenosine receptors. Neuroplasticity is the central nervous system's ability to adapt in response to intrinsic or extrinsic stimuli. Objective. To highlight the effects of caffeine on neuroplasticity. Method. The study consists of an integrative literature review. Results. Six articles were included. It was observed that the hippocampus is the brain region most affected by caffeine according to the studies. Other findings include enhanced mitochondrial function in synapses and improved spatial memory. Conclusion. Caffeine exerts a positive effect on neuroplasticity, primarily in the hippocampal region. The beneficial effects of caffeine are most apparent with chronic consumption of moderate doses, below toxic levels.
