Next-Generation Optimized Video Coding Mechanism for 6G Wireless Communication Network

The rise of the 6th generation of wireless communication provides vast potential for developing virtual reality panoramic video, especially in cyber-physical systems (CPS), where physical and computational components are tightly integrated. With slice size affecting transmission quality, the slice-based dramatic video coding approach improves the viewing experience of panoramic video even with constrained network bandwidth. Larger slices increase pixel overhead since they need to transmit a greater area to cover the same viewport, but they also reduce coding redundancy. Existing slice division methods are typically designed for rectangular viewports. However, in CPS, where spherical video is often projected onto two-dimensional planes, stretching distortions affect different viewport areas unequally. This complicates pixel overhead calculations, especially when rectangular slices cover irregular viewport areas. To address this, a slice division algorithm tailored to user-specific viewports in CPS is proposed. The algorithm analyzes the stretching distortion caused by projection formats and examines irregular viewport areas under varying slice divisions. By balancing pixel overhead and coding efficiency with different slice granularities, an optimal slice partition coding scheme is developed. The proposed algorithm achieves the same transmission efficiency as exhaustive search methods but with significantly reduced computational complexity, making it well-suited for real-time CPS applications. The higher transmission performance of the suggested approach is confirmed through comparison with the exhaustive search algorithm for slice partitioning, indicating its suitability for real-time CPS applications.
