A DTN-Based Wireless Sensor Network for Small-Scale Industry
This paper designs a wireless sensor networks (WSNs) system for small-scale industries, utilizing Delay/Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) technology for sensor data gathering. Our system consists of a sensor node, a relay node and a sink, and gathers sensor data to the sink using the Store-Carry-Forward (SCF) method. In addition, to address the delays for data gathering from the sensor node to the sink caused by the SCF method, our system introduces a function to estimate the data acquisition time based on the times that the sensor and relay nodes retain sensor data in their memory. Furthermore, we have developed a prototype system and verified its effectiveness through performance evaluation in an actual environment. As a result, we have confirmed that the introduction of SCF improves reliability by 37.3%.
