Erbium-Doped Fiber Nonlinear Transmission Circuit with Wide Operating Bandwidth for High-Resolution Optical Power Measurement

Optical power resolution (OPR) is an important parameter of optical power meters. Recently, we proposed an erbium-doped fiber nonlinear transmission circuit (EDF-NLTC) to improve the OPR. In this study, the fundamental characteristics of EDF-NTLCs are clarified by performing numerical simulations. The signal light wavelength and peak absorption dependences are simulated. The slope of the output power against the input power, which is the improvement factor of the OPR, is more than 10.1 for a wide wavelength ranging from 1450 to 1590 nm. The bandwidth dependence of an optical filter set after the EDF revealed that higher slopes are obtained with narrower bandwidths.
