Optimizing Wind Power Integration in Microgrids via Dynamic Line Rating and EV Scheduling: A Coordinated Approach

As the global energy landscape transitions towards sustainability, the integration of wind power, a vital renewable resource, becomes increasingly important despite its intermittent nature. This paper presents a comprehensive approach to optimize wind energy utilization within microgrids by combining Dynamic Thermal Line Rating (DTLR) with Electric Vehicle (EV) scheduling. The proposed method dynamically adapts power transmission capabilities while utilizing EVs as flexible energy storage units. Simulation results from case studies show that our approach leads to a 24.6% reduction in total operational costs compared to the STLR-only method and an 11.6% reduction compared to the STLR+EV method. Additionally, wind power absorption increased by 41.7% (STLR only) and 12.1% (STLR+EV), demonstrating a substantial improvement in microgrid sustainability and addressing the challenges posed by renewable energy integration.
