Laser recycling of photovoltaic and electronic waste
The landfill disposal of solar modules is a serious concern for the environment, and this waste is projected to reach 78 million tons by 2050. As solar power capacity is expected to grow to 14 TW by 2040, recycling becomes crucial. This presentation focuses on laser-based technologies for dismantling solar panels and recovering silicon, glass, and silver. This talk will also discuss the recovery of gold from electronic waste, which is expected to reach 74.7 million tons by 2030. The silver and gold from solar cells and electronic waste can be recovered in bulk and high-value nanoparticle form with high purity. AI and machine learning-optimized laser-recovery processes enhance yield and metal purity. These advancements offer a sustainable path for recovering valuable materials from solar cells and e-waste and providing huge energy savings.
