Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for energy storage systems
Due to the movement toward more sustainable energy resources, power generation from renewable energy resources has continued to develop drastically. The Energy Storage Systems (EES) were found to be the best way to overcome the intermittent nature of the energy produced from renewable resources. Three major types of energy storage systems are to be discussed in this study: Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS), Pumped hydro energy storage (PHES), and Compressed air energy storage system (CAES). Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for FESS, PHES, and CAES energy storage systems will be reviewed, highlighting recommendations for the best implementation.
