Brookhaven's accelerator test facility: a testbed for advanced particle accelerators and lasers
As a flagship DOE facility for Accelerator R&D Stewardship, the Brookhaven National Laboratory Accelerator Test Facility (ATF) supports proposal-driven user research across a range of areas, including novel plasma-based, laser-driven acceleration techniques and long-wave infrared (LWIR), picosecond, high-peak-power lasers. The ATF is currently advancing its LWIR laser capabilities toward achieving the multi-terawatt, femtosecond regime—a significant milestone in this spectral domain. We report recent progress in this pioneering work and highlight opportunities for user engagement and collaboration, including with the defense and security research communities.
