Enhancement of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas Stove Through Flame Shield Arrangements: Efficiency and Environment Assessment
Abstract Cooking is a daily activity in every household and restaurant around the world, which consumes energy and produces pollution. Reducing energy consumption and pollution is vital to preserve environmental health. Air pollution reduction and gas consumption of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) gas stoves are an important research subject. The main objective of the study is to improve the efficiency and reduce the pollution of a domestic LPG stove by placing a shield between the stove top and the pot bottom. Four shield shapes are tested (two cylindrical and two conical) by varying their position using wedges with different thicknesses. Obtained results show an increase of the thermal efficiency when using the shields. We observed a relative efficiency increase of about 7% for the conical perforated shield. Pollutant emissions showed a slight variation in CO2 and NOx levels when using shields. The carbon monoxide (CO) emissions increase for cylindrical and conical shields and decrease for conical perforated ones. We observe about 8% CO emissions decrease for this last shield.
