Comparison of the Turbulent Spectrum in the Development of Richtmayer–Meshkov Instability Numerically Calculated with Different Approaches

With a short-term lateral impact of a shock wave (from Supernova, for example) on a contact discontinuity between gases of different densities, numerous turbulent vortices arise—Richtmyer–Meshkov instability. The current work compares the results of a numerical solution of this problem in a specific two-dimensional formulation using various gas dynamic codes (FVM and SPH approaches). Various formulations of initial conditions, including those close to astrophysical conditions, have been studied. A turbulent spectrum was constructed and analyzed for each calculation. Parallel computations were carried out on GPU and a computer with distributed memory.
