Technologies Applied to Socioproductive Monitoring in Floodplain Ecosystems of the Eastern Amazon: Interdisciplinarity, Agrarian and Environmental Law

Guiding question: How can socioproductive-monitoring technologies be integrated with agrarian and environmental law to promote sustainability and preserve floodplain ecosystems in the Eastern Amazon, considering the interdisciplinarity between these fields? Objective: To analyze the application of socioproductive monitoring technologies in floodplain ecosystems of the Eastern Amazon, investigating how these tools can contribute to the region’s socio-economic and environmental sustainability. Method: A case study was conducted in the riverside community of Piracãoera de Baixo (PAE Urucurituba), using satellite imagery, near-infrared thermography, and NDVI analysis. A mixed-methods approach combined spatiotemporal data with participatory techniques, addressing normal years and periods influenced by La Niña (2022) and El Niño (2023–2024). Results: Extreme climatic events had notable effects on local production systems. La Niña caused flooding and crop loss (especially banana and cassava), while El Niño led to drought, fish mortality, and reduced access to drinking water. However, the exposure of floodplain soils favored high productivity of watermelon, melon, and pumpkin. These outcomes emphasize the potential of integrating monitoring technologies with legal land delimitation to promote adaptive strategies and reduce vulnerability. Research implications: The use of geotechnologies aligned with legal and participatory frameworks supports land regularization, strengthens environmental governance, and enhances the resilience of traditional communities in ecologically sensitive areas. Originality/Value: This study is original in combining technological, legal, and participatory approaches to address floodplain land tenure, contributing innovative strategies to policy development in the Amazon.
