Alguns conhecimentos matemáticos mobilizados na fabricação do quadrante de Figueiredo (1603)

Mathematics education and the history of mathematics are areas with didactic potential that provide different resources that can be used to assist in teaching mathematics. In order to articulate both, this study is based on the construction of an interface that seeks to articulate history and mathematics teaching. But for this to happen, it is necessary to start with a resource that allows this dialog to take place; thus, use was made of the treatise Chronographia, Reportorio dos Tempos... , which has some mathematical instruments, including the Quadrant, which is discussed in this research. In the interface, two movements are considered: the study of the context in which the mathematical knowledge was developed; and the movement of thought in the formation of the mathematical concept. In this work, the focus is on the first movement mentioned. In this way, the aim is to identify possible mathematical knowledge that can be mobilized in the manufacture of the Quadrant, contained in Part Six of the document Chronographia, Reportorio dos Tempos... . Regarding the approach, this research is characterized as qualitative, as it aims to learn about the historical and mathematical aspects surrounding the instrument in question, without being interested in quantifying them. In terms of objective, the research is descriptive and, in terms of procedures, it is documentary. Starting from the text that contains the Quadrant's manufacture and taking into account aspects of its period, different mathematical knowledge mobilized in the construction of the instrument can be identified, including: ruler, compass, circumference, perpendicular and parallel lines, bisecting and trisecting angles, Thales' theorem, among others. Therefore, this study aims to contribute to the research being carried out into the construction of an interface.
