Impact of Intervention Delivery Method on Adherence and Exercise Time in Women With Prediabetes or Diabetes

cardiovascular disease (CVD), how do the social determinants of health influence their ability to make behaviour changes/ modifications to mitigate their risk of CVD? Four EDI considerations were taken into account, namely: (1) sex (biologically female at birth), culture, education, and income level.METHODS: The methodology used was an interpretive, hermeneutic, idiographic phenomenology. The population of interest was women with a predisposition to CVD.Ten participants were recruited.Data were collected using a screening questionnaire, one-on-one semi-structured interviews, and participant diaries.Interpretive phenomenological analysis was used to analyze the data.RESULTS: Preliminary analysis indicates that most of the participants were keenly aware of the implications of their risk of CVD.Despite this awareness, their ability to implement changes to their diet and physical activity was greatly impacted by their cultural traditions, gender stereotyping, societal pressures, affordability of healthy food, and access to green infrastructuredto name a few.Themes from the analysis will be used to support the creation of a conceptual framework.CONCLUSIONS: Women predisposed to CVD should take a direct role in preemptively shaping their cardiovascular health. The conceptual framework will help health care providers enable a more person-centred and equity-guided approach to CVD prevention.
